Parties
Version: 3 October 2026 · This document forms part of the hosting agreement between Faraday Keynes Ltd trading as Astronomy Host (“we”, “us”) and the subscribing society (“you”, “Customer”, “society”).
Provider: Faraday Keynes Ltd trading as Astronomy Host (company no. 07914968), registered office 7 Rock Farm Mews, Front Street, Wheatley Hill, Durham, DH6 3NG. Registered in England and Wales. Billing: billing@astronomyhost.com · Support: support@astronomyhost.com · General: info@astronomyhost.com.
1. Permitted use
The service is for lawful operation of an amateur astronomical society (or affiliated organisation) website and related Administration. Use must comply with this pack and applicable law.
2. Prohibited use
You must not:
- publish illegal, defamatory, harassing, hateful, or infringing content;
- distribute malware, phishing, or attempt unauthorised access to our systems or other societies;
- send spam, unsolicited bulk email, or marketing without lawful basis and proper consent;
- upload purchased or scraped contact lists without lawful grounds and compliance with PECR/GDPR;
- mine cryptocurrency, run open proxies, or deliberately overload shared infrastructure;
- use the service in a way that harms our platform reputation or other customers.
3. Email and newsletters
Astronomy Host does not send society newsletters. Paste an embed from the society’s own ESP. Contact-form and shop mail send only through society SMTP. The society must have a lawful basis for marketing email (under PECR, typically explicit consent for non-transactional newsletters), honour unsubscribes, and keep list quality.
We may throttle, queue, suspend, or disable outbound website email, or suspend the site, if sending causes excessive bounces, high spam complaints, blocklisting, or risk to the hosting platform. The society remains responsible for its SMTP provider, list quality, consent, and content.
4. Fair use of resources
Storage, bandwidth, and CPU are for normal society website operation: pages, compressed photos (JPEG/WebP), PDFs, and similar public-site assets. The plan is not a bulk archive for raw telescope data (FITS cubes, camera RAW dumps) or a video-hosting service. We may require a storage pack, refuse or remove unsuitable files, or throttle bandwidth and CPU if use is materially excessive for the subscribed tier.
5. Enforcement
We may warn, restrict features, suspend, or terminate for material breach. Where immediate action is necessary to protect the platform, other tenants, or email reputation, we may act without prior notice.
If we receive a bona fide copyright infringement notice or a legal demand to disable access to material, we may immediately remove or disable that content without prior notice to the society, then tell the designated officer when we reasonably can.
Termination for cause does not entitle a refund of prepaid fees except where required by law.
